Cyclone Dana is predicted to hit the Odisha-West Bengal coast on3 (Wednesday). The cyclonic storm is expected to unleash heavy rainfall and strong winds. According to an IMD official, it can also intensify into ‘severe cyclonic storm’,

Once formed, Cyclone Dana is anticipated to move northwest, reaching the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha and West Bengal coasts by the morning of October 24. The IMD has predicted that these coastal regions will experience heavy rainfall between October 23 and 25.

The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression on October 22 morning and into a cyclonic storm by October 23, 2024 over eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

Cyclone Dana is forming in the East-Central Bay of Bengal and is expected to strengthen before making landfall near Puri on October 24, with its name symbolizing 'a beautiful and precious pearl' in Arabic.

IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that the system is expected to evolve into a powerful cyclonic storm, with significant to extremely heavy rainfall expected in parts of Odisha starting October 23.
