The S P BSE Sensex was down 73.48 points to close at 81,151.27, while the NSE Nifty50 lost 72.95 points to end at 24,781.10.

Indian equities in a highly volatile session ended Monday's session (October 21). Nifty closed the session at 24,781.1, down 0.29 per cent or 72.95 points, while Sensex ended lower by 0.09 per cent or 73.48 points at 81,151.27. Broader markets, however, tumbled sharply with Nifty Midcap 100 ending 1.7 per cent lower.

According to NSE and BSE circulars, the Muhurat Trading session in honor of Diwali will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, and Mahindra and Mahindra were among the top gainers on the Nifty index. Tata Consumers, Kotak Bank, BPCL, and Bajaj Finserv were among the top losers.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a tepid start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,925 level, a discount of nearly 25 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.
