The Met Office has issued an Amber Severe Weather Warning for Northern Ireland as Storm Ashley intensifies. The warning is currently in place for Sunday, October 20, and Monday, October 21. A yellow weather warning remains in place as Storm Ashley hit Northern Ireland overnight. The first named storm of the season is expected to bring winds of up to 80mph in parts of the UK. Temporary flood defences have been erected along parts of the River Lagan in Belfast in anticipation of the storm.

More than 100 flood warnings remained in place across the UK on Monday after Storm Ashley made its presence felt. A yellow weather alert for wind, issued by the Met Office, was in place until 9am on Monday morning across the north and east of Scotland and north-east England.
